With nearly 15 years of experience in workforce development, Barnett has dedicated his career to helping individuals secure meaningful employment, positively impacting over 8,500 job seekers. His expertise and commitment to economic empowerment are expected to bring transformative opportunities to the Central Illinois community.
A native of Mississippi, Barnett has played a significant role in fostering economic growth and job creation. His passion for workforce development extends beyond employment placement—he is deeply invested in comprehensive career advancement and financial stability initiatives. In 2022, Barnett was appointed as a U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Executive Fellow (Cohort 6), a recognition that underscores his leadership in workforce solutions and economic development.
Additionally, Barnett is the founder of the B.E.A.T Program (Business, Entrepreneur, Assistance, Team), an initiative designed to support local entrepreneurs and small business owners. Through this program, he has provided vital resources and mentorship, helping small businesses thrive and sustain long-term success. His innovative approach to workforce development aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Springfield Urban League, ensuring that individuals not only find employment but also achieve long-term economic independence.
As he steps into his new role, Barnett is committed to expanding employment opportunities and providing full-service support to job seekers. His focus will include career counseling, financial literacy education, and structured pathways to self-sufficiency. By leveraging his extensive experience and strategic initiatives, Barnett aims to strengthen the workforce landscape in Central Illinois, creating sustainable career pathways and empowering individuals to achieve economic stability.
