Concerning Local Government:
Public Lactation Room
- Requires every facility that houses a circuit court to designate at least one public lactation room or area by June 1, 2019.
- The lactation room or area cannot be in a restroom. The lactation room or area must include a chair, a table, an electrical outlet, and, where possible, a sink with running water.
- Notice must be posted regarding location and access within the building.

Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act
- The break time may run concurrently with any break time already provided to the employee.
- An employer may not reduce an employee’s compensation for the time used for the purpose of expressing milk or nursing a baby.
- An employer shall provide reasonable break time as needed by the employee unless to do so would create an undue hardship.
- An employer shall make reasonable efforts to provide a room or other location, in close proximity to the work area, other than a toilet stall, where an employee can express her milk in privacy.

Lactation Accommodations for Students, from Illinois
- Under the amended School Code, Illinois public schools, including charter schools, are required to provide reasonable accommodations for lactating students to express breast milk, breastfeed an infant child, or address other needs related to breastfeeding.
- Breastfeeding students may not incur an academic penalty as a result of her use of the reasonable accommodations and must be provided the opportunity to make up any work missed due to such use.
- The legislation also sets forth a complaint procedure.
