Supporting local and state human service employees since 1991
Since 1991, the CHTC has worked towards achieving its mission of providing maternal/child health and nutrition-related programmatic and computer based instruction to local and state human service employees to support them in the task of helping their clients achieve maximum self-sufficiency through integrated family oriented services. To date, the CHTC has trained over 20,000 participants with the majority working for agencies that provide direct services in maternal/child health and nutrition programs, juvenile justice and youth services programs, and women’s health.
To equip staff with new skills and knowledge while addressing the unique needs of local agencies, the CHTC offers a blended learning model that combines instructor‑led training with web‑based instruction.
The web‑based component, known as eLearning, provides an interactive experience that allows users to learn within their local agency environment at their own pace on program‑ and software‑related topics. Self-paced courses can be accessed anytime and anywhere with a personal computer and a high‑speed internet connection.
CHTC History
The Illinois WIC Training Center (IWTC) of Springfield was established in January of 1991. Both State and local agency personnel from the WIC program were trained in programmatic issues and computer software use in accordance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidelines.
In 1993, with the introduction of the Healthy Moms/Healthy Kids training, the IWTC was renamed the Community Health Training Center (CHTC). The CHTC expanded to Chicago in 1994 in preparation for the delivery of the Cornerstone computer software training.
Now that Cornerstone implementation is complete, CHTC has returned to programmatic training for management, professional and clerical staff, as well as expanding services to include a variety of Human Services and Public Health programs and distance learning.
